RARE AND SMALL CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY LOOKING GLASS
Probably American, circa late 18th Century, retaining it's original surface
Item # 130009YZP22

A most attractive little Chippendale period looking glass of nearly miniature proportions at only 15" in total length. Boasting it's original gritty and heavily patinated surface, the mirror is a somewhat rare survivor and remains in outstanding condition. An old yellowed note verso reads:

"This mirror was given to Helen Carson Singer by Aunt Ella Mullock Heath, wife of Chauncy Heath. She died at the age 85 in October 1949. Aunt Ella said her grandfather Mullock had owned the mirror and always used it to shave. The glass was replaced 11/13/56"

The tight scrolling of the mirror exhibits the best of the period. The frame is crafted of nearly blackened white pine with tongue-in-groove corner joinery.  A single forged nail remains on the back.

Measurements: 15" long x 8 1/2" wide

Condition Report:
Original finish. Retains one old nail securing the back, the others being modern pins. Chips to bottom scrolls, a few scrolls repaired or possibly replaced, though we believe they are original and just restored. Glass replaced, some silvering loss. Top right scroll repaired from a crack.
