American Classical Style Mahogany Pier Table, 19th Century
AMERICAN CLASSICAL FLAME MAHOGANY PIER TABLE
Composed of 19th century elements
Item # 706IFL25K
Using excellent selections of matched grain mahogany veneers in the apron and stretcher, the craftsman that reconstructed this piece was quite effective at lightening what is generally a heavy form. The pier table is crafted of period elements, likely from larger pieces to create a form that is closely in line with the works from Philadelphia during the first quarter of the 19th century. A simple top shaped from a solid plank of mahogany harvested from a drop leaf table conforms to the profile of the table’s apron, stepping out slightly on the corners over gorgeous veneered columns with crisp stamped brass rings finishing either end. The bold concave molding between the feet has an intense scoop, the entire table raised over acanthus carved feet. It is a powerful design piece for the classical interior, carefully benchmade using rich materials by a highly skilled craftsman in a way that preserves surface patina between elements and allows the rich glowing mahogany to be presented beautifully.
