AMERICAN UNPAINTED LANCASTER STYLE WINDSOR FANBACK SIDE CHAIR
Benchmade, 20th Century, underside signed "R.D.L"
Item # 603AJW10
This gorgeous bench made fanback windsor side chair is crafted in the Lancaster taste, the nine-spindle back with swollen and ring turned outer balusters features a wonderful splay and overall form. The crest rail is steam bent with tiny little wooden pegs driven through the spindles to permanently lock them in place, these flanked on either end by carefully hand carved scrolled ears. The scooped seat is nicely formed with the legs through-tenoned and locked in place with split-wedge tenons. The legs are finely turned. The chair is left with an unpainted natural wood surface, this only gently worn. Overall a beautiful hand made reproduction that presents just gorgeously, being an incredibly accurate rendition of the originals of the late 18th century. For a home decorated in the Colonial taste where a comfortable and entirely functional exacting reproduction is needed for a practical seating space, this is an outstanding selection that was built to last the test of time.
