American Late Classical Crotch-Mahogany Writing Slope on Chest
AMERICAN LATE CLASSICAL CROTCH MAHOGANY WRITING SLOPE OVER CHEST
Item # C103205
This beautiful case piece is dressed in the most vivid crotch-mahogany veneers, these showcased particularly well in the drawers and the edge of the closed writing slope. This opens and rests on itself to create a stable writing surface for managing correspondence and bills; the interior is organized with a set of three matched drawers over a blue leather writing surface. Either end of the writing surface can be raised, the front revealing a set of five pigeon-hole letter slots and storage, the back storage area with an old paper lining. All drawers are precisely dovetailed and constructed with pine secondary woods, the lower drawers all retaining their original turned wooden knobs. The chest rests over bun feet raised over brass castors.
Of a nice restrained size, this is actually a rather practical writing table for organizing and paying bills while having plenty of storage room for keeping a room tidy.
Measurements: 32 1/4” W x 18 1/2” D x 38 1/8” H; writing surface 31 1/4” W x 26 3/4” D when opened
Beautifully refinished in the last few decades, surface with minor wear/scuffs/abrasion. Retains one working key. Replaced blue leather writing surface; new brass hinges for writing slope (old hinges filled).
