ROCOCO REVIVAL CARVED WALNUT ARM CHAIR
Continental, circa late 19th century
Item # 709RFV15-1
This beautiful arm chair is clearly a creation of the Rococo Revival movement from the second half of the 19th century, a crisply carved chair heavily influenced by the Louis XV period with its undulating lines and Rococo motif. It retains an old finish in the rich patinated walnut wood throughout with a delightful glow where handling has burnished the finish into a warmer cognac hue. Naturally it requires full reupholstery. It is raised over four cabriole legs and a well carved apron with foliage curling around a rocaille form at the center. An X-form stretcher locks the four legs firmly in place. It is a fine accent piece that we acquired as part of a set of four chairs - some of these other chairs (each of which retains full original upholstery) may still remain available in the shop inventory or upon request.
Measurements: 22” W x 20 3/8” D x 37 3/4” H, 17” H to seat
Old surface with light wear, some chipping and cracks here and there throughout. Repaired crack to one arm. Must be reupholstered. Sturdy and quite comfortable.
