Art Deco Carved Walnut Table with Six Leather Chairs, France c. 1920
ART DECO CARVED WALNUT DINING TABLE WITH SIX LEATHER SIDE CHAIRS
Probably France c. 1920's
Item # 611IXB21P
This gorgeous set remains in original condition throughout, each chair retaining their original cracked and patinated leather coverings and mellowed surfaces throughout. The crest rails of each chair are carved to match the canted corners of the faceted table top with a selection of fruits, flowers and foliage crisply carved over squared stiles. A rectangular back is accentuated by the rectangular central panel with brass tacked leather. Each seat is trapezoidal in form with a brass tacked edge behind a molded frame that projects just slightly over the plain apron. The front legs are gorgeous with the exaggerated swell of reeding that graduates with the taper of the leg to terminate in a tiny ball foot. The table is beautifully formed of walnut and remains in excellent condition - the iron brackets beneath release to allow the table to slide open and accept extension leaves (no longer available) and turned legs drop down from either side to support the extended length. It is a most striking and rather unusual set.
Measurements: [table] 29 1/2” H x 53 5/8” W x 44 1/4” D; [side chairs] 38 3/8” H x 16 1/2” W x 15 3/4” D; 17 3/4” H to seat
No extra leaves for table. Light scuffs along edges, minor surface wear. Inactive pest damage in walnut throughout. Original leather coverings beautifully patinated, cracked and worn - still comfortable and enjoyable. All chairs are sturdy and strong.
