About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

EMMANUEL VILLANIS (FRENCH, fl. 1880-1920), ART NOUVEAU BRONZE BUST SCULPTURE
"Diane", sealed with "Alberto Vignes Buenos Aires" importer seal, stamped "AP" & "6954"
Item # 130212ZHP15

This wonderful antique French bronze bust captures a proud and beautiful "Diane", the whole being of utmost quality in cast and completion. The dark-brown patina becomes nearly black in areas while employing a rusty oxidization to add surface depth across her body; her hair is given great depth and texture with an interesting patination that results in an almost "dusty" quality. The word "Diane" and the crescent in her hair are elevated from the overall form in a gilded patina. The back of the sculpture is sealed with the "Alberto Vignes Buenos Aires" importer seal, a seal associated almost exclusively with bronzes of singularly outstanding quality c. approximately 1880-1900 - likewise it bears a stamped inventory number and "AP".

Measurements: H: 22 7/8"; W: 14 1/2"; D: app. 7"

Condition Report:
Excellent condition - what appears to be oxidization and color variation is the fine original patina. Some oxidization to corners and crevices with some discoloration beneath the chin. Patina preserved under wax.
