ART NOUVEAU ORMOLU MOUNTED MAHOGANY NIGHTSTAND BY LOUIS MAJORELLE
Nancy, France circa 1910; "Pirouette" Model, no. 512
Item # 710XBP17

A rare and exquisite nightstand piece from the Pirouette collection of Majorelle Fréres & Cie as designed by Louis Majorelle, the title is fitting with the unusual spinning effect created by match-booking the veneers.  Custom gilt bronze mounts of exceedingly fine quality surmount the four corners, each with the organic naturalism that Majorelle grew to excel at.  An unusually crisp beading is inset around the edges of the demilune shelf top and into the corner columns; these are crafted of turned brass, not cast, resulting in the particularly sharp form.  The frame is crafted of rich molded mahogany throughout the primary woods, all secondary surfaces being crafted of golden oak.  The lower door opens to reveal a single open shelf and a lower space with its’ original porcelain vessel.

We acquired this with the matching bed and dresser with mirror also from the Pirouette collection all from the same estate; the mirror is signed by Majorelle.  All three articles may still be available in the shop.
