BARBIZON SCHOOL PAINTING OF A LONE FIGURE ON PATH
Oil paint on canvas laid on artist panel, signed lower right NKB '81
Item # 709VFF15L
With vigorous and high energy brush strokes, the artist of this fine work brings to life a dreamy country landscape with a range of color and complexity of swirling pigment that is most moving. The dark figure blurs into the foliage of the background, behind which a grove of trees line the horizon. In the lower right corner the initials of the artist are crisply incised: NKB, dated ’81. It is a finely preserved piece in presentation-ready condition.
Measurements: 16 3/4” W x 2 1/2” D x 19 1/2” H [frame]; 10 3/8” W x 13 1/8” H [panel]
Canvas lined on artist panel, almost certainly original. Period frame, likely original to the work. Minor chips/losses to the frame, gilding wear, old joint separations. Surface of painting in excellent condition, edges behind frame with typical edge wear. Under UV flares to the right of the figure from touch ups, other scattered spots of touch up in foliage.
