AMERICAN DOME TOP DOVETAILED DOCUMENT BOX
Probably Pennsylvania circa 1830-50
Item # 402CPS21

This most attractive document box probably originates in Pennsylvania and is exceptionally well preserved - the nicely worn and dry salmon painted surface preserves early and probably original layers of the same color beneath. The lid lifts on original hinges supported by later brass hinges to reveal a clean white pine interior. A complex wrought iron strap lock is retained on the front of the box.  The dome form of the lid is particularly attractive and leaves the interior quite spacious, the steam bent pine nailed along the edges into the frame of the lid.  Exposed dovetails lock together each of the four corners in both the lid and the box, the bottom board being nailed into the case with small brads from the sides.

Measurements: 18" wide x 9" deep x 6 13/16" high

Condition Report:
Old worn painted surface over earlier paint. No key, lock untested. Brass hinges are added. Brass bail pull old, originality unknown.
