LA BELLE ÉPOQUE FRENCH GILTWOOD TABOURET
Circa late 19th century
Item # 801WUX30L
A crisp and finely carved tabouret foot stool in the Louis XVI taste, this is a most striking accent piece for the sitting areas. The small form packs a great deal of vivid detail, the apron exposed beneath the large stuffed cushion. This apron is carved by hand with motifs of curving and curling acanthus leaves with chaotic furls of florals over a twisted-rope reeding. Each corner is highlighted with some of the most beautifully developed rosettes over tapered legs. These are highlighted with a deeply carved ring around the top with gorgeous leafage. The length of the leg is spiral-fluted with a ring of waterleaves surrounding the ankle over a simple ball foot. A more beautifully decorated and well balanced example is difficult to find. For the connoisseur of fine French material from La Belle Époque, this is an excellent acquisition.
