Clarence E. Roe (British, 1850-1909) Landscape Painting of Two Bridges
CLARENCE EDWARD ROE (BRITISH, 1850-1909) “PAIR OF BRIDGES OVER STREAM"
Marked verso "Exhibited at Institute of Painters in oil 1885", signed lower right C. Edward Roe
Item # 704FPN22
A beautifully detailed landscape painting glancing through a grove of trees flanking a slow moving stream over which a pair of bridges cross, the work is signed in the lower right corner by Clarence Edward Roe in his standard script. The high chroma display of greens and warm overtones lends a certain nostalgia to the tranquil scene where a pair of cows graze in the lush grass in the far distance. It presents beautifully in what appears to be the original frame, the pine giltwood embellished with gilded gesso ornamentation around a flat gilded border with incised lettering of the artist C. Edward Roe.
