About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

CRAIG YAMAMOTO CHERRY AND FIGURED MAPLE CHEST OF TEN DRAWERS
With hand forged iron hardware; circa late 20th/early 21st century, unsigned
Item # 801KQW27P

An entirely hand-crafted piece by woodworker Craig Yamamoto of Whidbey Island in Washington, this example is crafted out of thick solid planks of cherrywood with gorgeous figured maple drawers.  Each of the ten drawers are dovetailed with self-closing runners, the hand forged iron pull a work of art with a tiny nub for the pull to knock against without denting the wood.  One upper drawer has a tiny butterfly joint healing the chaotic burl of the figured maple, an interesting touch executed flawlessly.  This is a very fine custom made studio piece.

We also may still have in the shop a Craig Yamamoto credenza that nearly matces this chest.

Measurements:  69 W x 19 3/4 D x 43 7/8 H

Condition Report:
Self closing runners in a few drawers are a bit sticky, though still operating fine.  Light surface wear and fading, overall remaining in exceptional original condition.
