ELDRED WHEELER QUEEN ANNE STYLE CHERRY FLAT TOP HIGHBOY

Item # 607MBE11A
The firm of Eldred Wheeler is quite well known for their outstanding quality and the entirely handcrafted nature of their objects - each is carefully modeled after the original pieces of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century Colonies. The present example closely reproduces the flat top highboys of Connecticut circa 1760-80 and can still be commissioned from Eldred Wheeler. It is a most delicate work, the drawers hand dovetailed with a deeply chamfered bottom board set in grooves and tacked along the back edge. The hand carved fan in the lower drawer is mirrored in the topmost drawer. A highly active scrolled apron gives lift and elegance to the otherwise boxy form of the highboy - the entire case is raised over long and thin cabriole legs terminating over gentle padded feet.
For the collector and decorator in American Colonial forms, this exacting reproduction is crafted as an investment piece to last as long as the originals if well cared for.
