English George III Serpentine Mahogany Sideboard c. 1790
ENGLISH GEORGE III INLAID MAHOGANY SERPENTINE SIDEBOARD
Item # 703EPZ20Z
This fine and powerful George III period sideboard features a wonderful serpentine profile that showcases the gorgeous flowing grain of the ruby mahogany boards throughout. The top in particular is a most attractive selection of mahogany, the back edge highlighted by four brass posts raising a gallery with small vasiform finials. The facade features a single broad drawer in the center over a pair of satinwood fan-inlay returns; this is flanked by faux double drawers on either end. The right drawer is actually a single drawer with original wine compartments, the left a swinging cupboard door that is a very early conversion from being a pair of drawers into being a cabinet. Each keyhole is highlighted with a satinwood inlaid escutcheon. For anyone passionate about period English furniture, this is such a classic piece with moving inlay work and a gorgeous form.
