ETIENNE HENRI DUMAIGE (FRENCH, 1830-1888) BRONZE BUST OF DAPHNIS
Circa late 19th century, signed H. Dumaige on edge of bust
Item # 705IQW14P

This powerful example of Romantic realism depicts a young female musician wrapped in an animal skin garment with a woodwind syrinx tucked in the knotting.  She looks off into the distance, her head covered in a woven cap with her hair just barely falling on her uncovered shoulder.  The crisp chiseling is excellent, the skin of the subject finished with perfect accuracy.  The integral socle is titled in relief DAPHNIS and is signed along the proper left edge H. DUMAIGE.
