BENOÎT BENEDICT ROUGELET (FRENCH, 1834 -1894) BRONZE SCULPTURE OF A FENCER
Signed Rougelet in base, patinated bronze
Item # 810EUT01P

Of an extraordinary quality, the surface exhibiting the highest level of casting precision and finishing work, this work by Benoît Rougelet is one of a series of various fencers he modeled.  The chiseling is just exquisite, his skin textured with a careful hammering, his eyelids, shoes, mustache, garment and hair perfectly formed and detailed.  We may still have this figure’s opponent available in the shop as well; as this fencer pulls his glove on to prepare for the duel, his opponent (available by searching our shop inventory) is readying his sword for action.

Benoît Rougelet was born in France in 1834.  He studied under François Duret and began exhibiting at the Salon in 1876.  In 1887 he achieved honorable mention, again at the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle, and won a third class medal in 1892.

Measurements:  12 H x 7 W x 6 D

Condition Report:
Very light handling wear, overall in exceptional condition. Sword appears to be intentionally “flexible”.
