FINE ANTIQUE HERIZ RUG
Persia, circa 1900
Item # 702KQO11A
A noteworthy carpet for it’s fine mellowed colors and outstanding condition, this gorgeous Heriz rug is wonderfully complex with an intricate display of foliate across the navy ground of the primary. There is a vein of activity that stretches from the pink foliage centermost, running the length into large angular motifs on either end. The color pallette is incredibly varied, though the overall low saturation hue allows the scape to flow together very nicely. Twin inner borders scroll around the edge, the second of these with an interesting scalloping that refuses to conform to any one set of colors. The primary border is grounded in a rusty red. Throughout the carpet is a wonderful low pile that allows the sharp geometry to spring to the forefront; however, the rug has been cared for and has no overly worn areas with the structure remaining soft and pliable throughout. This is a most striking acquisition, an early carpet that introduces a century of gentle use, mellowed color and eyeballed symmetry to the interior.
