AMERICAN WINDSOR STYLE BENCHMADE LOWBACK ARM CHAIR
Circa late 20th century, finely hand crafted
Item # 703CSB08P
This very skillfully handcrafted chair perfectly replicates the original lowback windsor chairs of Philadelphia. It features a most attractive and carefully balanced splay in the turned legs, these the rather distinct turned-barrel and swollen baluster form so quickly associated with the influential workcenter. Each leg joins through the seat with split-wedge joinery. The choice of woods perfectly adheres to the period, the craftsman utilizing maple in the turned components, oak in the arm rail and pine in the beautifully scooped seat. The rich black surface is faux worn to reveal the ruby hue of a lower paint level beneath on the raised elements - this is perfectly done in a manner that is most striking.
For anyone passionate about benchmade reproductions of the original works of the 18th century, this is piece of outstanding quality.
