FINE EMPIRE STYLE MARQUETRY INLAID ROSEWOOD PORTICO MANTEL CLOCK
Probably French, Circa Late 19th Century
Item # 511CLI01P

An exquisitely crafted piece, this gorgeous Empire style portico clock is modeled perfectly after the originals of 1815, but employing a more English taste with fine vibrant rosewood veneers precisely and perfectly inlaid with marquetry floral displays. A powerful presentation piece, the tapered capitals raise a tympanum to create an architecture reminiscent of the Roman Forum temple ruins. The capitals and footings for each column are the most perfectly hand chased and detailed gilt bronze, the gold a perfect compliment to the satinwood stringer inlays that run the length of each column in parallel rays. The original cast gilt bronze pendulum with silver toned metal pipings and a brass back is almost as perfectly detailed as the frame surrounding the clock dial - the dusty original gilding is positively gorgeous. Age has oxidized the dial face with it’s Roman numeral chapter ring and patinated pierced hour and minute hands.  The entire clock rests over turned and flattened feet.  It will require a professional to service the movement, as the clock operates for a bit before stopping.  An absolutely gorgeous piece for anyone passionate about fine Neoclassical timepieces.

Measurements:  20 1/8” H x 10 1/8” W x 5 5/8” D

Condition Report:
Movement is complete and runs briefly, but stops after a short period of time - will require a professional to service. Surface in marvelous condition, lightly faded with only minimal dings/abrasions/little chips.
