WORN AND MELLOW SEMI-ANTIQUE ROOM SIZE SAROUK
Persia c. 1920
Item # 703LMT20P
An incredibly beautiful mellowed Sarouk, this room size rug was probably woven in the second quarter of the twentieth century circa 1920. The primary area is particularly tasteful with it’s sparse use of motif, a distinct departure from the generally busy field of this region. The beige ground is a nice neutral backdrop for the sharp floral motifs that symmetrically flow throughout the center of the rug - the only major variation in form is the u-shape curvature of vines on one end versus the horizontal layout of the floral structure on the other end. A medium blue and thinner beige border with repeating foliate motifs flank the broad brick-red outer border with it’s complex arrays of vases arranged with flowers and planted motifs circling the rug in perfect balance. The inordinately tight knot count is typical of the region and lends wonderful detailing to each motif, this showing through powerfully in the very low pile. Delightfully worn with discolorations and variations throughout, this is a most striking piece that melds beautifully with traditional and modern interiors equally. It would be particularly powerful in a room with an Art Deco flair.
