FINE SEMI-ANTIQUE ROOM SIZE HERIZ RUG
Persia c. 1920
Item # 702FTB11Q
A most attractive and wonderfully pliable Heriz carpet from the first quarter of the 20th century, the rug is intended for a slightly smaller scale room with dimensions of 9.75’ x 7’. The repeating pattern of the primary ground is quite interesting, no one area garnering all of the focus but rather a sense of complex symmetry is diffused across the entirety of the surface. A wonderful mellowed hue is retained in the plush pile from years of gentle wear, a rug that has clearly been protected from overexposure to sunlight. The primary ground is a brick-red hue with a kaleidoscope of colors creating the garden landscape; however, there is a sky-blue that is found emphasized throughout, particularly in the quite interesting inner/outermost border where a serpentine of pale-red and sky-blue finish the garden’s edge. The standard herati border of serrated acanthus and rosettes repeats around the primary border with the same delightful blue vegetable dye in every other rosette.
Remaining in outstanding condition, this is a wonderful acquisition for anyone passionate about the geometric rugs from the Heris region. It’s angularity lends itself to such a broad array of design scenarios, perfectly melding in both the classical, traditional and modern interior.
Measurements: 117” L x 84 5/8” W
Ends reduced, some loose cords in fringe and one small area of reweaving along fringe. Pile is attractively worn. Structure is soft and pliable, good even color throughout. Minor age appropriate discolorations from use. Overall an outstanding presentation.
