FRENCH SCHOOL BRONZE SCULPTURE OF A BULL TERRIER
Signed "Barye" on base, Early 20th Century
Item # 411SRZ29
This incredibly attractive sculpture of a bull terrier is finished with utmost attention to detail. Every aspect of the body is perfectly chased and filed, the base crisp with a sharp edge, the underside filled with plaster and covered in a green felt. The model captures a Bull Terrier as he appears to be begging or otherwise forlorn in expression, his body sculpted with great technical realism. The work is finished in a well preserved golden brown patina. The naturalistic base is signed in a crisp blocked lettering "Barye", presumably a work after Alfred Barye or at least attributed to him by the foundry casting the sculpture.
