ART NOUVEAU CARVED WALNUT MARBLE TOP BUFFET
Likely France circa 1900, unmarked
Item # 806CLG15K
A most striking presentation piece, this server is crafted with a very fine grade of materials throughout; the burl walnut veneers in the door, drawers and panels flanking the mirror are very powerful and well chosen timbers. Where naturalism and the organic are intended to define a piece, the craftsman and designer of this piece was careful to allow the nature of the woods to dominate the piece; custom cast bronze pulls are true to the essence of Art Nouveau with grape leaves and clusters of grapes around the root form pulls. The carvings in the upper corners of the cabinet and the mirror are of inordinately fine quality showing a practiced hand. It is a very handsome acquisition for the interior where an interesting form with relatively restrained size is required, being of a rather convenient size for a serving piece.
