French Empire Doré Bronze Mahogany Side Table, Paris c. 1900
FRENCH EMPIRE STYLE MARBLE TOP MAHOGANY STAND
Paris c. 1900
Item # 510XCP31A
A precise and very finely crafted piece from the turn of the century, this stand borrows directly from the Neoclassical motifs of the first quarter of the 19th Century. Each leg is surmounted by highly detailed lion masks flanked by floral swags around the apron. A single drawer with very precise hand dovetailing of the mahogany secondary woods easily slides in and out of the case with an interesting central drawer guide that perfectly houses the runner beneath the drawer. Depth for the drawer is extended by the time consuming effort of bowing the back of the drawer, allowing the drawer to perfectly conform to the shape of the case and nearly disappear when closed into the table. Two shelves beneath this work both to stretch and strengthen the legs, but also for function and beauty, lending presence to the thin taper of the legs. Each leg is set into the most beautiful lion paw feet, these cast bronze with finely chiseled hair along each toe and well developed nails.
For the serious connoisseur of fine French furniture, this is an absolutely exquisite little table that will certainly be a prided addition to your home.
