French Louis XV Style Painted Antique Arm Chair, 19th Century
FRENCH LOUIS XV STYLE PAINTED ANTIQUE FAUTEUIL
Circa late 19th Century
Item # 502CIA22
The provincial form of this chair is nicely complimented by the gray linen upholstery, this a new covering we selected for the chair; the stuffed cushion is filled with down feathers and the chair is very comfortable. The surface has been touched up many times over the course of time, several different layers visible, much of the paint a nicely dry and oxidized surface full of gentle patina and wear. The carvings throughout the frame are typical for the style, the crest rail with a bouquet of flowers over a round molding, the apron with a more fully developed collection of flowers with intermingled leafage. Both front legs are carved with floral arrangements over the gentle cabriole of the leg, both terminating in tightly scrolled toes. This is a wonderful piece, full of character and life from well over a century of enjoyment - sturdy and strong throughout, this is a chair that remains young and will certainly be passed to future generations if well cared for.
