GEORGIAN MAHOGANY DROP LEAF DINING TABLE
Composed predominantly of late 18th century elements
Item # 702XOW22L

The elegant mahogany drop side, gate leg table is a timeless classic, anchoring a room with its traditional sophistication. The versatility of this piece makes it ideal for dining rooms or for use as a console table with its trim footprint.  The table top is crafted using wide singular planks of smooth figured mahogany hanging over period forged iron hinges with mostly original screws that are raised easily over smoothly swinging gate legs on either side.  The apron on either short end is veneered with thick mahogany placed vertically in harmony with the direction of grain along the legs.  Each leg is beautifully turned in a long taper that terminates in exquisitely carved ball and claw feet - they are highly figured, the dense island wood allowing crisp definition in the knuckles and talons which grasp a silky smooth sphere.  The piece is at least somewhat composed of old parts by a skilled craftsman, probably during the mid-to-late 19th century; the top is from another table of the same size and apron structure adjusted and repaired somewhat to allow the table to continue serving.  It is not an ideal selection for the purist collector, but is a most refined display piece for a home where the piece might be actively used and enjoyed - the lack of collector status allows the table to be utilized guilt free while remaining incredibly striking in a period setting.

Measurements:  28 3/8” H x 47 1/2” W x 36 7/8" D

Condition Report:
Refinished; light dings/abrasions throughout as expected, circular scar marks to top and other minor blemishes.  Repairs to knuckles in gate legs, extensive inactive pest damage to apron.  Old shrink cracks in top; top probably married to apron.
