About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

HENRY W. WAUGH (AMERICAN, 19TH CENTURY) ANTIQUE LANDSCAPE PAINTING
Signed "H.W. Waugh" lower right, titled en verso "Old Bridge at Gennezzano Near Rome"
Item #  411PLZ15S

This very fine antique American landscape painting by the somewhat obscure artist, Henry W. Waugh, captures a vibrant countryside landscape with a stone bridge raised over a trickling brook.  The back of the painting notes it as being located at "Gennezzano, Near Rome", presumably referring to Genazzano just outside of Rome.  Henry W. Waugh painted the exact same location, offered as lot 1502 at New Orleans Auction Galleries, Inc. in July of 2012 titled "Roman Countryside with Peasants and a Shepherd Chasing Wild Boars".

Measurements:  [frame] 40 1/16" W x 30 1/16" H; [canvas] 32 7/8" W x 22 3/4" H

Condition Report:
Untouched canvas, preserved in exceptional condition.  It would certainly benefit from a cleaning, which we can have completed upon request for a very modest charge; we have chosen to leave it in it's current untouched condition simply because it has been preserved so wonderfully and can be enjoyed for many more years before being necessarily cleaned.  Frame is period and probably original, glass possibly added.  Original lining.  No apparent restorations under UV examination.  Gilt and gesso loss to frame from typical wear.
