Louis Philippe Style Kingwood Pedestal Desk, 19th Century
LOUIS PHILIPPE STYLE KINGWOOD BLACK LEATHER PEDESTAL DESK
Circa last quarter of the 19th century
Item # 801GKT27P
This finely crafted desk has such variety of rich material - the brass framing elements are of very high quality, each beautifully cast with intricate detailing. The original bail pull handles are exceptional, each with a pair of acanthus bulbs circling the middle of the pull. An original black leather writing surface with gilt tooling around the edges and a diamond medallion in the center makes for a most attractive writing surface. A series of four drawers on either side flank a single broad drawer with an original lock and key. The exotic kingwood veneers throughout the edging are only made more dramatic against the somewhat more mellow parquetry work in each drawer and book-matched on the left and right side. It is a powerful piece for the home study and office.
