About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

NAPOLEON III GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCK OF PSYCHE
France c. 1870; movement impressed "E.M. 2083"
Item #  411LYI15Z

This impressive timepiece centers around the figural of Psyche, her finely detailed wings fluttering behind her as she remains transfixed on the butterfly resting in her open palm.  The casting quality is impeccable, her hair an intense display of curls over the strong and attractive features of her face, the flawless surface of her body cast free of even the slightest pit or blemish, the complicated flow of her dress replicated with utmost realism.  She rests over a gilded case with finely chased ormolu mounts resting over lion paw feet with winged returns.  The white dial of the clock retains an original surface with well preserved black Roman numerals and pierced hands.

It is a very fine selection for anyone passionate about mythological bronze sculptures and clocks.

Measurements:  21 1/2" H x 13 3/8" W x 5 3/8" D

Condition Report:
Movement requires restoration, not presently functioning. Back window is absent.  Light scratch to Psyche's thigh, other minor patina wear, oxidization to the gilding.  Early winding key and original pendulum included.
