NAPOLEON III STYLE EBONIZED BOULLE, BRASS AND ORMOLU BOOKCASE VITRINE
Circa 20th Century
Item # 702NPH11P
This twentieth century reproduction is a perfect expression of the Napoleon III taste, exquisitely constructed with the finest materials for a powerful presentation. The deep and pure ebony surface is contrasted with brilliant displays of ormolu that surmount the ringed feet, each corner, the curved apron and cast egg-and-dart molding that finishes the crest and apron. A touch of maroon is introduced in the boulle work bringing harmony between the case and the red silk finishing the inside of the cabinet. Intricate brass inlays are intertwined with faux tortoiseshell with perfect symmetry. The heavy door opens to give access to the two shelves that would house books or display a collection. The craftsmanship is above reproach, hints of the machined dovetailing visible in the rear corners of the feet along the back of the case.
For the home where very fine surface condition is important, this striking and vibrant bookcase is an elegant and refined statement piece.
