PAIR OF ENGLISH CARVED OAK AND LEATHER UPHOLSTERED SIDE CHAIRS
Circa Early 20th Century
Item # 512EVQ07
Most attractive and pleasant, this gorgeous pair of early 20th century leather upholstered side chairs exhibit the nostalgia of a smoky study or library. They are masculine and bold forms that exhibit strength in all components of the design - the turned front legs are highlighted with a single band of carved stars around the middle of the leg, each of the four legs locked firmly in place with a tenon-mortise joined H-form stretcher. Oversized brass and iron castors on the front legs are as much a statement of design as they are for practicality. The thick original leather is a beautiful patinated cognac hue with great discoloration and only minimal wear, finished around all edges with original brass tacking. The chairs are extremely comfortable and a most effective design statement - they would be perfectly suited as a flanking pair of chairs around a chest of drawers in the living room or as accent pieces in a formal study. Built to last the test of time, this is a pair of chairs in a style that is classic and meant to be enjoyed in a fine interior for a lifetime.
Measurements: 18 1/4” D x 19 1/4” W x 35 3/4” H; 19” H to seat
One missing brass tack on the back of one chair, several screws missing from castors, small stains/discolorations and light wear/abrasions to leather throughout, this remaining in overall gorgeous condition. Both chairs are very sturdy, strong and comfortable.
