PAIR OF LOUIS XVI STYLE GILT BRONZE SIX-LIGHT SCONCES
Late 19th century
Item # 609GHW25P
This pair of six-light wall sconces make a powerful display, projecting with an inordinate depth from the wall - while only being roughly 9” in width, they project out from the wall just over 13”. The casting quality is exceptional, each a highly complex construction with a ram’s head under a flamed torchiere from which the urn central baluster projects to raise arms draped with curls of acanthus foliage and lifting each candle well. The upper pair of arms terminate in greek-key formations over a dropped-finial with a cluster of ripened grapes hanging. A most fine display, these are an eye catching pair of excellent quality that make a most interesting strikepoint to the interior.
Measurements: 13 1/8” D x 9” W x 14 1/2” H
Drilled for electricity, wiring since removed. Oxidization and verdigris in crevices. Some arms not perfectly straight. Retaining original gilding.
