PAIR OF FRENCH DIRECTOIRE STYLE GREEN PAINTED ARM CHAIRS
Circa Early 20th Century
Item # 603IYZ20
These arm chairs are directly inspired by the Directoire taste of the first quarter of the 19th century, these crafted approximately one century later with the same austerity that was reflected in the Neoclassical movement against the excesses of the French royalty. The warm mellowed green surfaces are beautifully patinated, early and naturally worn, probably the original paint from over a century ago. Both chairs were reupholstered in the last decade with a floral covering that is in excellent condition other than two stains at the back right corner of one seat. They are an absolutely gorgeous selection, comfortable and classic, a form that has remained highly desirable for over two-hundred years. The craftsmanship is excellent and built to last the test of time.
Measurements: 20 1/2” D x 22 1/2” W x 33 1/8” H; 15 3/8” H to seat
Early and probably original painted surface with expected wear/abrasions. Upholstery on one chair is excellent, the other has two stains at the back right corner of the seat. Small hole in arm of one chair. Both chairs are very comfortable and built incredibly well - sturdy and strong in all joints.
