FINE PAIR OF CAST BRASS FRENCH LOUIS XVI CHENETS
Incised F. Barbedienne on one leg, Circa Late 19th Century
Item # 606ECW25P
An incredibly intricate and finely cast pair of chenets by the firm of Ferdinand Barbedienne, these make a powerful statement in the classical interior. The polished brass surface is nearly mirror grade in quality, the quality of the casting being self evident with the tight chiseling and chasing of the details throughout. An architectural form, the form is comprised of a single bold flamed finial over a large urn with acanthus draping over the lid and in the flanking scrolls through which circular rings hang. The lower structure is a flowing display of pierced rocaile and acanthus embelishments, the central shell with draped foliate garlands terminating in rosettes over each stepped footing. The left footing of one chenet is incised in the typical script “F. Barbedienne”. For the serious collector of the finest in French, the works cast by the Barbedienne foundry are always very fine and of the highest quality.
