ENGLISH REGENCY ROSEWOOD BRASS MOUNTED WRITING SLOPE
Circa 1830, with early green leather writing surface and hidden drawers
Item # 801CQW27P
A very nice quality English Regency period rosewood and brass writing slope, this is a fine piece remaining in excellent original condition. It opens to reveal an early tooled green leather writing surface with a locking upper that opens to reveal a document storage compartment and an unusual spring-latch hidden compartment; the wall below the inkwells pops away to reveal a pair of mahogany and oak hand dovetailed drawers with tiny bone knobs. The lower slope opens with a small leather swatch to reveal a smaller document box with latticed stringing for storing keepsakes. The writing slope includes an early loan document from 1878 that was found inside of the box.
A lovely piece for anyone with a passion for fine Regency furnishings and decorative arts.
