About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

ROBERT W. MARSHALL LANDSCAPE PAINTING IN OIL ON CANVAS
"Early Morning - Windsor Castle from the Thames" c. 1880, signed lower left
Item # 508SQZ29A

A bright and vibrant work, this beautiful painting captures an interesting perspective on the Windsor castle in the last quarter of the 19th century.  The colors are warm and inviting as the glow of morning is evident in the sleepy shadows cast across the quiet waters.  The work is large and the brush detail is evident even when close up with the canvas, making it a fine statement piece from any distance and in every way a strike point for the interior.  Signed lower left "Robert W. Marshall" and retaining an early placard noting the title and date of the work, the reverse of the canvas also has a charcoal inscription noting the title also signed by Marshall, appearing to be in the hand of the artist.  This superb rendition of an English landscape was conserved probably around thirty or so years ago and could benefit from a light cleaning and touch ups to the three little losses in the lower right corner, work that we can certainly have completed complimentary as part of the quoted price - please note that conservation is not work completed quickly, so if this is something you would like us to have completed for you it will take approximately 6-12 weeks for completion.

This is an excellent and very nostalgic scene that will certainly be a cherished part of any English or classic interior.
