Chippendale Style Drake-Footed Marble Top Walnut Hall Table
Benchmade (hand carved and crafted) in the 20th Century
This absolutely gorgeous table is hand crafted by a master craftsman using period techniques. The broad white marble top projects over the edges of the table, finished in soft and rounded edges - it is a very thick and heavy solid marble top. It rests over four solid walnut cabriole legs, each in a single piece, softly molded on the sides and carved carefully to terminate in perfect drake feet. The apron and sides tenon into these feet at the corners, joined with exposed wooden pins twice at each corner. Hand carved returns flank each leg, all eight glued and nailed with a hand crafted iron rosehead nails. The beauty of this table is in the apron, intensely scalloped and flowing with stunning symmetry.
This is an absolutely gorgeous work of art, above reproach in all aspects, and crafted with the same care and attention to detail you would find in the Chippendale Period. An original table of this quality from the last quarter of the 18th Century would be prohibitively expensive. This is a young piece, early in it's life and in nearly flawless condition (other than a few scratches on the marble top as noted below), and certain to become a family heirloom to be passed on to future generations.
