- Superb Empire Style Malachite and Bronze Candelabra, 19th Century
EMPIRE STYLE GILT BRONZE AND MALACHITE FIGURAL CANDELABRAS
Circa late 19th century
Item # 609QXT10S
A most attractive pair of late 19th century candelabra in the Empire taste, the male and female figurals raise gilded stems of serrated foliage and budding flowers, the tips culminating in three fully developed flowers holding candle wells. The pair have never been drilled for electricity and remain in their excellent original condition, free of flaw or alteration. The figures are distinctly Greco-Roman in dress and form, their draped garb and classical hair styling crisply detailed after the period. They stand over cylinder plinths veneered with utmost attention to detail and flow using the coveted malachite stone with rings of gilt bronze over the squared base; masks draped with garland surround the cylinder plinth.
An infrequent find on the market in this level of pristine condition and originality, veneered in malachite of this quality, these are a most fine selection and make a powerful statement in the classical interior.
