BRONZE MODEL AFTER ANTOINE-LOUIS BARYE (FRENCH, 1796-1875) OF TIGRE QUI MARCHE
F. Barbedienne Fondeur, Paris; cast after 1875
Item # 511CEV17Q
An exquisitely detailed cast of Antoine-Louis Barye’s model of a marching tiger, this fine sculpture captures the proud beast in a leisurely pace. It’s head is held high and powerful body modeled with the precise and technical realism typified in Barye’s work. The work is finished in a gorgeous and rather unusual rust oxide patination with traces of black and underlying browns, a heavily variated patina that is most lively. This is a very fine acquisition for serious collectors of works by Barye.
