Victorian Mahogany and Red Leather Partners Desk circa 1880
VICTORIAN MAHOGANY PARTNERS DESK WITH A MAROON LEATHER TOP
London circa 1880, with very high quality cabinet work throughout
Item # 801LNP30
This is an exquisite presentation, bold and powerful with its robust footprint and angular form. A true partner desk, the desk is intended to be fully functional and is spacious enough to be practical from both sides of the desk; a stack of four graduated drawers in either pedestal on either side provide ample storage and organization space while a single drawer in the center slides easily in and out of the apron. The cabinet work throughout is superb with tight crisp dovetailing from the thin pine secondary woods of each drawer into the solid mahogany drawer front, this surrounded by a thin cockbead molding that frames the original cast brass ring pulls and locks. Especially attractive is the maroon gilt-tooled leather writing surface that has worn so beautifully.
It is a defining piece that was crafted with skill to be actively used, enjoyed and to last the test of time.
Measurements: 59 5/8” W x 41” D x 29 1/2” H
Minor cockbead molding patches. Gorgeous old surface with silky patina, old scuffs and scars throughout that have beautifully oxidized. No keys. Leather top is likely original with age appropriate wear, also being absolutely gorgeous to look at. Very sturdy, strong - note, this does not disassemble, so moving it throughout the home will require some effort.
