New England circa 1810
Item # 803UII13

An inordinately fine and powerful presentation, this Federal period giltwood mirror is designed as an architectural representation of the home it would generally hang in.  From the bold projecting crest molding hang a series of giltwood spheres affixed on armatures, these draped over an original eglomisé panel with a central depiction of an urn overflowing with flowers.  A pair of fluted columns flank either side of the mirror with simple turned capitals and footings, each with a series of repeating beads that continues around the rest of the frame.  The gorgeous and likely original silvered glass is worn and tarnished with the typical deterioration we come to love in old mirrors, this locked into the frame with the original pine boards from the back.  It is a most attractive piece and remains in exceptional original condition throughout.

Measurements:  29" W x 5 1/2" D x 43 3/4" H

Condition Report:
Extensive wear to mostly original gilding, including chips and gesso losses.  Mirror is very early, likely original, this with silvering losses throughout and a break in the lower left proper corner (mostly hidden behind the framing).
