ROOM SIZE ANTIQUE MAHAL RUG
Persia, ca. 1910
Item # 904PNW17Z
Featuring an incredibly complex and active field, this fine rug has a delightfully worn pile that brings the sharp and angular geometry of the rug to the forefront of the eye. In the outer border, a mellowed palette of burnt red is brought to life with a virtual kaleidoscope of colors that make up the array of geometrical floral arrangements interlaced with vines and foliage. Bright sky-blue, lapis blue, greens, teals and ivory are intricately woven into a this border, framed in several layers of smaller borders with repeating rosettes.
The primary enjoys a navy-blue ground symmetrically decorated with a wealth of various representations of flora and fauna in a garden-like landscape. The complexity and balance of the whole field is impressive.
This is a powerful rug that makes a dramatic statement to the interior.
Measurements: 163 L x 126 1/2" W (approx. 13 1/2" L x 10 1/2" W)
A fine presentation piece. Minor spots of discoloration/stain. Attractive low pile with weft/warp visibility. A few areas of reweaving and the cotton selvedge is likely re-wrapped. A sturdy and pliable structure.
