ANTIQUE ROOM-SIZE PURPLE SAROUK
Persia, circa 1920
Item # C102102
A strong statement piece, this gorgeous room-size Persian Sarouk carpet features a rich overall magenta and purple ground that is most striking. The angular stylized floral designs throughout are cast over a veritable kaleidoscope of symmetrical forms, shapes and patterns. A thin vine-and-foliage formation works its way through the primary ground of the carpet, dividing it out into two distinct gardens that almost perfectly mirror one another; each culminates in a bold hexagonal motif with a deep cobalt blue central diamond. The carpet is surrounded by one major border, this also grounded in cobalt blue with a complex array of foliage and blossoming flowers connected with thin vines, flanked by two minor borders on either side.
With just over a century of life lived, this fine carpet remains supple and sturdy, capable of being enjoyed for many decades if well cared for.
