About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

ARNE VODDER FOR SIBAST MØBELFABRIK TEAK EXECUTIVE DESK WITH CREDENZA RETURN
Denmark, circa 1960s | Sibast label affixed to underside
Item # 109GIY24Z

This exquisite executive desk from the 200 series designed by Arne Vodder for manufacture by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s is very fine and a rather rare find in the United States. It features the distinctive "floating top" with molded ends raised over a series of drawers on the right side, the top drawer fitted with some organization over a larger filing cabinet. The credenza and desk do not actually attach, with the desk just floating on top of the credenza.

The credenza itself is a thing of beauty - the back edge is molded to match the profile of the desk and all pulls are sculpted out of teak with machined metal. The sliding door opens to show a shelved storage compartment in the deepest part (shelves absent) and to give access to a series of white-lacquered drawers in the center. The end of the credenza has a small cabinet space that opens to a shelved interior. The original Sibast label is affixed to the underside of the desk.

Measurements: [desk] 29 1/16" H (to the molded "wings") x 35 3/8" D x 80 9/16" W; [credenza] 25 1/4" H x 16 11/16" D x 65" W

Condition Report:
Surface has been conditioned and oiled. There is a "speckling" to the surface with some darker spots in the finish that we have not attempted to remedy as this would require a more complete surface restoration by a professional furniture restoration firm; overall it is relatively mild and the flash lighting does somewhat emphasize it, but it is noteworthy. Minor wear and "dings" to surfaces throughout from light use. Retains original keys. Some wear to the lacquered inner drawers. Lacking an interior shelf for the inner-most compartment in the credenza.
