About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

ART NOUVEAU BRONZE MODEL OF A MAIDEN IN THE WIND
Patinated bronze, after a model by Saibas; circa 1870-90
Item # 007GHW26L

A fine model of a young woman facing an intense wind, this cast after Saibas is a picture of drama and motion. The reverse is incised "A.D. Saibas 1870", the date of conception and it is raised over a stepped black slate base. The casting quality is superb with a fine chiseled surface, the details crisply chased and chiseled and the smooth surfaces left perfect; it is finished in an interesting burnished patination against dark browns in the garment and hair.

Measurements: 13" H (figure only); 17 5/8" H (total) x 5 1/8" D x 6" W

Condition Report:
Patina wear to the garment throughout. Some edge losses/chips to slate base, repair/loss to corner of base. Polished, cleaned and in fine presentation-ready condition.
