About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

A FINE PAINTING OF A DUTCH INTERIOR BY JOHN HENRY HENRICI (AMERICAN, 1874-1958)
Oil on canvas relined on linen, signed lower right "John H Henrici"
Item # 905VPW12L

A fine interior scene of a family's home depicting a mother with her small children interacting by an open window that overlooks the harbor with rows of sailboats along the dock. The interior is exquisitely detailed in the Dutch taste, distinctly reminiscent of the genre scenes of Henrici's contemporaries in the Netherlands during the first quarter of the 20th century. His use of light is particularly effective, the half-drawn window shade diaphanous as the golden rays of the sun glance against each of the figures and spill into the room. Only a hint of light reflects off of the large shrank cabinet against the wall or the meager belongings throughout the room. The work is signed lower right in a bold script "John H Henrici".

Measurements: 24 1/8" H x 30 1/8" W [canvas]; 29 3/4" H x 35 3/4" W [frame]

Condition Report:
Professionally conserved, relined on linen. Inpainting to extreme edges on all sides, spots of touch up to the wall; fresh varnish somewhat obscuring surface. Light craquelure. Frame is contemporary.
