ENGLISH GEORGIAN STYLE PANELED OAK HALL SETTLE
Circa late 19th century; w/ new upholstered woven linen cushion
Item # 803DHC13P
A gorgeous worn antique English hall settle, this antique wooden bench is beautifully formed with arched recessed oak panels in the Gothic taste. The tenon-mortise construction brings strength and longevity to the form, the thick and generous solid oak planks creating a firm body. The seat back cants just slightly backward for a touch of lounging comfort, while most of the comfort is found in the very thick upholstered cushion. A pair of open arms on either side are raised over turns columnar supports over cabriole front legs that terminate in somewhat padded feet.
For anyone passionate about English antiques, this is a wonderful selection. An ideal piece as an antique wooden bench for the hallway, we have also seen this form being utilized beautifully with a breakfast table as well as in the bedroom. With a wonderfully worn and oxidized surface throughout, it is a most rich and visually magnetic antique bench.
