About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

FOLK ART PAINTED AND CARVED WOOD HORSE
20th century, unsigned, designed to be entirely disassembled
Item # 305FEB10P

An incredibly fun and playful carved and painted folk art horse, it is a clever design that entirely disassembles. It utilizes tenons for three legs and a slot dovetail for the half-bent front leg, the tail attaching with a dowel and the head lifting off - all elements assemble or disassemble without any joinery or even pegs, using pressure fits only. The body of the horse is beautifully carved with a whimsical motif and painting throughout. The surface is heavily patinated and shows delightful wear throughout from years of enjoyment. Probably from the first half of the 20th century.

Measurements: 25 1/2" H x 8" D x 24 1/4" W

Condition Report:
Repair to the slot dovetail of the raised leg, extensive wear and loss of paint to the surface throughout including chipping and wear to the wood throughout. Paint not examined under UV for originality/inpainting, but we certainly can upon request.
