FRENCH EMPIRE ORMOLU MOUNTED MAHOGANY DRESSING TABLE
Item # 707FGT26P
An angular Neoclassical work crafted with densely grained mahogany primary woods, this powerful architectural piece was designed to be a dressing table for the bedroom. The top projects gently over each outward facing side the a bevelled molding around the top, this raising over original brass hinges and supported by an oversized brass arm on the proper left side; this arm includes a small custom cast nut that allows the sitter to lock the top in the open position. A large open compartment allows for the convenient access to any dressing essentials, while four drawers beneath this allow organization of smaller items. Each drawer is carefully hand dovetailed with a bottom board set in grooves on either side to allow for expansion and contraction of the woods. The gilt bronze mounts are noteworthy, each of jewelry grade with precise chiseling and expert gilding. The half columns raising the structure are capped by stamped brass elements and similarly cast footings. An arched base stretcher firmly locks the structure in place. Every side of the table is completely finished, allowing it to be viewed fully from any angle, not limiting placement only to the walls.
This is a most fine acquisition for the classical interior.
Measurements: 31 3/4” W x 19” D x 30” H; 46 7/8” H when mirror is raised
